Elevated & Sophisticated Dressing Room

Getting to dedicate an entire room solely for ‘hanging out and getting ready’ purposes has got to be a designer’s dream- which I jumped on with equal parts excitement and envy. Our client wanted to add a little spark to the existing dressing room which was shared between two University- aged young ladies. This space was used daily (and sometimes for long periods on Saturday nights!) from curating outfits to perfecting hair & makeup. More importantly, it was a place to connect and feel beautiful.  

The goal was to give the space a facelift and some personality without major investments, while keeping some key pieces with sentimental value. 

Staying true to the purpose of the room, I aimed to create an atmosphere that was both feminine but sophisticated. Keeping the space as a functional dressing room was important, but I also wanted to create a warm space for conversation and fun (I pictured hours being spent flipping through outfits over music and cocktails).

We opted for floral wallpaper to provide a muted, feminine touch. While the vanity set was a keeper, we complimented the vintage look by swapping the dated mirror for a more modern design and paired it with a matching full-length version for a cohesive look. The open clothing racks remained, adding to the open and relaxing vibe. A new tiered shelf grounds the space with additional storage and a means to display accessories and sentimental items. 

A gorgeous, textured stool was added to incorporate seating in the small space. Round wooden hat hooks that travel along the wall offer a beautiful and functional touch with opportunities to add pops of colour and personality. Finally, a beautiful vintage-inspired rug completes the look by pulling in old & new and adding warmth to the space.
