Top 6 tips for thrifting

I have been obsessed with thrifting lately and have found some amazing finds.   It’s a great way to find some interesting, unique pieces for your home in very low prices. 

Here’s a few tips for your next thrifting trip:

1) Go often. Inventory changes quickly so pop in for quick visits when you can!

2) See the tree instead of the forest: it’s hard to pick out items that work for your home when there are shelves and shelves of stuff but try your best to picture it as part of a collection of what you already have at home. Does it compliment what you already have?  Will it look out of place?

3) Lamps can be pricey at retail stores so when you find a great piece – jump on it! It may be a new lampshade away from being your favourite piece.

4) There’s something about a beautifully framed piece of art. A landscape on a vintage frame works nearly everywhere so it’s a win all day long.

5) Be caution of DIY projects. Not everyone is meant for a DIY project! While some furniture pieces can look amazing with a little TLC- make sure you are prepared to put in the work before you purchase- otherwise it’ll just be another thing taking up space in your basement! (I am so guilty of this!)

6) Books-  Books are such a classic way to decorate a home and a great way to add some character into your space. There are some great finds at thrift stores- some that can be used as décor, on coffee tables, or even for framing illustrations.
